ON JUNE 23, the Centre released a long
list of 51 IAS officers of 1985 batch who were empanelled for
appointment as additional secretary at the Centre. Among those who
made it included an officer who has been serving in a Gujarat PSU.
Meet Atanu Chakraborty, who has been the Managing Director of
Gujarat...
State Petronet Limited since November 6, 2014.
Chakraborty, who will retire on April
30, 2020, has been playing a pivotal role in strengthening the state
PSU and his experience in Gujarat, known well for reviving PSUs, will
come handy in dealing with the affairs of the Central department.
Chakraborty is an Engineering Graduate
with specialisation in Electronics and Communication and has done his
Post Graduate Diploma in Business Finance and subsequently MBA from
UK (Business Administration). He has wide experience of working in
various State as well as Central Government Departments and PSUs.
Chakraborty earlier served as Principal
Secretary of Finance Department (Economic Affairs) at Government of
Gujarat.
As the MD of Gujarat
State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) from July 13, 2011 to
October 30, 2014, he has been instrumental in bring back the PSU into
the path of profit.
He also served as the Managing Director
of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited from February 27, 2014 to
August 29, 2014.
He served as the Chief Executive
Officer of Gujarat Maritime Board. He has worked in various
capacities in the State Government and Central Government. He served
as the Chairman of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited.
He served as a Vice Chairman of Gujarat
Maritime Board. He has been a Director of Petronet LNG Ltd. since
February 23, 2015. He has been a Director of Gujarat Gas Company
Limited since November 13, 2014 and Gujarat State Petronet Limited
since November 6, 2014. He serves as a Director of GSPC Gas Company
Limited. He served as a Director of Indian Potash Limited. He serves
as a Trustee of Kandla Port Trust.
He was also serving as an independent
Non-Executive Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers &
Chemicals Limited from July 28, 2011 to November 4, 2014.
He served as a Director of State Bank
of Saurashtra since March 25, 2004. He served as a Director of
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited from February 27, 2014 to
August 29, 2014.
He served as a Director of Adani Ports
and Special Economic Zone Limited from October 25, 2008 to November
20, 2009 and Gujarat Industries Power Co. Ltd. from August 9, 2011
August 17, 2012.
He has also served as a Managing
Director, Gujarat State Financial Services Ltd., CEO, Gujarat
Infrastructure Development Board, CEO of Gujarat Maritime Board and
Executive Director, Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemical Ltd. In
the Central Government, he served as Joint Secretary, Ministry of
Finance.
A good writer, he has been contributing
articles on issues relating to PPP and natural gas transportation
etc. A voracious reader, his areas of his interest include finance, economics, infrastructure, etc.
