WITH a view to bolstering Make in India
Initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching ‘Skill India’
initiative today (July 15). But the groundwork has already begun with
the government involving many public sector units to take the
initiative forward.
The ministry of heavy industries and
public enterprises has already instructed all the PSUs under it to
prepare modules and provide training to youths in...
their respective
sectors, for which funds would be allocated to them.
“Huge fund has been earmarked for the
skilling initiative by the PSUs. Many PSUs have restarted their
training centres following the orders. They have been asked to
provide both high-end and low-level skilling to cater to all kinds of
demand. It is proving to be successful,” The Indian Express quoted
a senior official asa saying.
Modi is also launching the Pradhan
Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana on the occasion of the World Youth Skills
Day.
PSUs like HMT have restarted its
training centre for both conventional training on machinery like
milling and grinding alongside the high-end training on Computer
Numerically Controlled Machines where the human intervention is
minimal.
“We earlier had HMT International,
the training centre that was later shut. However, ever since the
order, the training centre has been reopened and we have also
prepared the new module. We are training diploma and degree holders,
giving apprentice training and are also planning to bring
international faculty to skill youths,” a senior official from HMT
said.
The ailing PSU has so far trained
around 200 people. “The programme has got impetus after the new
government came to power,” the official added.
The PMKVY is touted to be a
demand-driven, reward-based skill training scheme that will
incentivise skill training by providing financial rewards to
candidates who successfully complete approved skill training
programmes.
Over the next one year, some 24 lakh
youths would be skilled across the country. Further, the government
has also assured that even people working in unorganised sector will
also be recognised through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
This is likely to give them a chance to
be assessed and certified for the skills that they already possess.
