FORMER chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of public sector aluminium major National Aluminium Company (Nalco) Ansuman Das has been appointed as the member of Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). Former Cabinet secretary Ajit Kumar Seth was appointed as the chairman of the government's head-hunter. Seth, a 1974-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, completed his extended tenure of four years at the Cabinet secretariat on June 13 this year.

of three years or till he attains 65 years of age, said the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Seth will succeed Atul Chaturvedi, who has completed his tenure.
The other member who was appointed on August 14 was Gauri Kumar.
Das has been appointed in place of Ashwani Kumar Datt. Both Kumar and Das will have tenure of three years or till they attain 65 years of age, a DoPT statement said.
Das is the first person from Odisha to be appointed member of PSEB.
A mechanical engineering from REC, Rourkela (now National Institute of Technology) and MBA from UK's University of Hull, Das began his career with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and joined Nalco in 1982. Das has done his MBA from University of Hull in United Kingdom with a British Council scholarship. In 2013, he was appointed CMD Naalco, a post he held till April this year.
Known to be a marketing strategist, Das was GM (marketing) and then in 2009, rose to the level of director (commercial) of NALCO. Das was also holding the additional charge of director (human resources) for a brief period in 2012, and now holds the additional charge of director (finance).
Das started his career as a management trainee with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and has also done a post-graduation course in aeronautical production from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai.
PESB was constituted by the Centre on March 3, 1987 with the objective of evolving a sound managerial policy for the Central Public Sector Enterprises and, in particular, to advise the government on appointments to top management posts.
The public head hunter is responsible for the selection and placement of personnel in the posts of chairman, managing director or CMD (Level-I), and Functional Director (Level-II) in PSEs as well as in posts at any other level as may be specified by the government.
